Why Sensor Fusion Matters

Every sensing modality has a failure mode. Fusion exists so that a single failure mode does not become a false alert.

PIR misses a stationary person. Wi-Fi sensing can be ambiguous about which side of a wall activity occurred on. A door contact says nothing about what followed. Each is fine; each alone produces alerts that operators learn to ignore.

Fusion combines them so that a claim like 'the space is occupied but nobody has moved for two hours' is supported by more than one independent signal.

The operational payoff

The measurable outcome of good fusion is a low false alert rate. That is the metric that determines whether staff keep trusting the system in month six.
